In early 2018, we dreamed of a tool that would automate the management of Critical Control Points.
In February 2021, our little start-up, D2K Information received an award for CCP Watch®. CCP Watch® is that tool, developed by our incredibly dedicated team, together with the water quality team at Bathurst Regional Council. And, it works!
We are grateful to AWA for recognising our achievement in the face of some very serious competition.

The Winning Project – A Water Quality Digital Revolution Partnership for Bathurst
D2K Information partnered with Bathurst Regional Council to implement D2K’s CCP Watch® digital product, for its drinking water treatment plant with the objective of improving performance and oversight. CCP Watch® is now fully implemented and helping underpin a water quality secure future for the Bathurst region.
CCP Watch® has delivered a range of proven social, cultural and economic benefits to Bathurst Regional Council:
- Social:
Operational staff are at the frontline of public health risk management. The use of CCP Watch® has enhanced the understanding of drinking water quality risk management and desired public health outcomes, through improved engagement of operational staff.
- Cultural:
CCP Watch® has also helped to improve management confidence as CCP status can be checked remotely, even when staff have not been able to visit the plant to check SCADA. This aspect can be invaluable for remote infrastructure and has been especially important during COVID-times, an additional benefit not anticipated at the outset of the project.
- Economic:
Water supply capital and operational resources in regional utilities are often spread thinly. Funds must be allocated and spent carefully to ensure that levels of service for the community are met in an optimal way and regional growth can be effectively planned for and serviced. CCP Watch® has helped improve operational resource prioritisation in several ways including freeing up of time from reporting which has been able to be allocated to other activities such as optimizing system performances.
From a capital resource perspective, CCP Watch® has helped identify focussed allocation of funds including better targeted upgrading of assets (probes, valving etc) to improve water quality outcomes. This is a boon for Bathurst Regional Council as early detection of fails can help direct and plan for capital expenditure and avoid crisis-driven spending decisions.
The D2K Information team uses the body of real time water quality data to develop further innovations for CCP Watch® such as improved reporting, visualisation of trend data and recent development of a novel CCP Performance Index algorithm.
CCP Watch® has changed how Bathurst Regional Council manages water quality issues by providing an overview for water quality discussions where treatment issues, improvements and trends can be identified. It also provides additional redundancy in monitoring the process by flagging issues that had been missed in the plant.
